Barron's
Top 100 RIA Firms
Advisors who wish to be ranked in the Barron’s Top 100 RIA Firms apply and fill out a 102-question survey about their practice. Barron’s verifies that data with the advisors’ firms and with regulatory databases and then apply their rankings formula to the data to generate a ranking. The formula features three major categories of calculations: (1) Assets (2) Revenue (3) Quality of practice. In each of those categories they do multiple sub-calculations.
Barrons takes into account not just the amount of assets an advisor manages, but also the type of assets—are they private-wealth assets or institutional? If they’re institutional, are they for a foundation or an endowment, or are they corporate assets? They measure the growth of advisors’ practices and their client retention. They also consider a wide range of qualitative factors, including the advisors’ experience, their advanced degrees and industry designations, the size, shape, and diversity of their teams, their charitable and philanthropic work and, of course, their compliance records. There is no fee to participate.

Best-In-State, Next-Gen Advisor
The Forbes America’s Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors ranking is developed by SHOOK Research using a proprietary algorithm of qualitative and quantitative criteria. Qualitative factors are evaluated through telephone, virtual, and in-person due diligence interviews and include industry experience, compliance records, client impact, credentials, and best practices. Quantitative factors include assets under management and revenue trends. SHOOK Research’s proprietary methodology and ranking algorithm incorporate in-person, virtual, and telephone due diligence meetings to evaluate each advisor across criteria such as client impact, industry experience, client retention, review of best practices, credentials, compliance records, and firm nominations, as well as quantitative factors including assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criterion, as client objectives and risk tolerances vary and advisors rarely have audited performance reports.
